"Star Trek" describes an optimistic future world in which humans, together with many alien races, have overcome disease, racial differences, poverty, paranoia, and war, and built an interstellar federation. Subsequent generations of captains set their sights on the farther universe, looking for a new world, and bravely heading to places that had never been reached before.
